Our Mississippi River Lodge is located right on the banks of the Mighty Mississippi River between Savanna and Thomson Illinois.
Our location has one of the most awe-inspiring views of the Mississippi River around. The early morning sun rises to illuminate the Iowa bluffs across the river and on a calm windless morning the water will just glisten. Just ponder sitting on the deck, drinking your morning coffee, watching the river gently flowing by and the wildlife moving about the area in their morning search for food. During the migration seasons you can watch hundreds of American White Pelicans in the area. During the fall American White Pelican migration, the pelicans will flock in the area creating areas that look like islands of snow. Although you can occasionally see Bald Eagles any time of the year, they are very prevalent in the winter when there is ice on the river. There have been many times when we have watched over 24 Bald Eagles sitting on the ice right in front of the house. The tree that the Bald Eagle is sitting in to the right, is only a few feet from the deck on the house.
In the evening you will want to keep your camera close by to get some great photos of the sunsets over the Mississippi River. Every evening is different. On a night with a clear sky, the sun just drops below the Iowa bluffs on the far side of the river, but on an evening with some cloud cover, the skies light up with the most beautiful colors imaginable. We hope your entire stay will be beautiful weather, but unfortunately, mother nature does send some stormy weather across the river. But even a storm with lightning is something to behold.
Three of our bedrooms have queen size beds with pillow top mattresses and one bedroom has two twin size beds with pillow top mattresses.

OK, so enough with the beauty of just sitting and watching nature. If you are a river lover, the Mississippi River offers you all kinds of fun. Fishing, water skiing, tubing, or cruising up the river, it's all here for your enjoyment. Since we are located on Big Slough, off of the main channel of the river, you can have fun without having to deal with a lot of river traffic. Access to the main channel is easy if you want to cruise the river. Only five miles up the river you can get into Lower Sabula Lake where there is a great new sand beach. A great place to take young children to play. See our page "On The River" for printable maps of the Mississippi River in this area. There is a public boat launch only a quarter mile from the house where you can launch your boat. A dock is provided to moor your boat here at the house. If you do not have a boat, you can fish off the dock or the bank or you can rent a flat bottom boat at Fin And Feather Campground just North of the house.
